Information For Real Estate Listing
Durham County's 2009 Real and Personal Property Listing Form must be returned by February 2, 2009!
Failure to list your real and personal property will result in a 10% penalty applied to your 2009 tax bill.
If you have not received a pre-printed listing form, we have forms that you can download on the Durham County
TAX FORMS AND PUBLICATIONS PAGE
Real estate owners as of January 1, 2009 are required to review their pre-printed listing forms for accurateness and report any changes to their real or personal property such as:
- any new buildings, additions, improvements and/or deletions which occurred during the preceding calendar year. These changes must be reported whether made by you or someone else
- any manufactured homes, campers, boats, boat motors, jet skis, personal watercraft,or airplanes that you own
- un-tagged or un-licensed vehicles (Do not list tagged vehicles) that you own
- Furnishings and appliances provided by you to your tenant(s)
- Personal property used in a business, trade, profession or farm activity
- Farm Equipment
- Any dog(s )or cat(s) that you own, maintain, or possess within the territorial boundaries of Durham County
If you have had no changes to your real or personal property, please sign and date your listing form and return it to the address provided or you may bring the forms to the Durham County Tax Office located at 200 E. Main Street, 1st Floor.
DO NOT INCLUDE ANY TAX PAYMENTS WITH YOUR LISTING FORMS!
Did you know that Durham County offers taxpayers several Property Tax Relief Programs?
- If you are 65 years of age or older you may qualify for the Elderly or Disabled Exclusion Program or for the Circuit Breaker Homestead Exclusion Program.
- If you are an honorably discharged veteran who has a 100% service connected disability or who receives benefits for specially adapted housing (There are no age or income limitations for this program) you may qualify for the Disabled Veteran Exclusion Program.
- If you are the owner of real property that is used for historic, religious, charitable,literary, or scientific purposes, you may qualify for the Property Tax Exemption Program.
- If you are the owner of 10 or more continuous acres of land that is currently in production, you may qualify for the Present Use Program.
