About The Tax Administrator

Appointed by the Durham county Board of Commissioners, Kimberly H. Simpson serves as the Tax Administrator.  In Durham County the Tax Administrator serves as both the  Assessor and the Tax Collector .  Ms. Simpson joined Durham County in 1996 and served as the Deputy Tax Administrator from 2000 until her apointment on March 10, 2008 as Tax Administrator.

 

Ms. Simpson has had 20 years of experience in the administration of taxes and is a certified North Carolina Tax Assessor.  She  is certified as both a Real and a Personal Property Appraiser by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.  Ms. Simpson also holds certifications with the NC Tax Collectors' Association as a Certified Deputy Tax Collector and with the NC Association of Assessing Officers as a Certified Personal Property Appraiser. She frequently serves as a speaker before the International Association of Assessing Officers, the North Carolina Tax Collectors' Association, and the North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers.

 

Currently, Ms. Simpson is the Education Chairman for the North Carolina Association of Assessing Officers and for the North Carolina Tax Collectors' Association.  She was recently appointed to serve on the North Carolina Property Tax System Steering Committee and was also appointed by the President of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) as its Vice Chariman for the 2009 Tax Collection Council.

 

Ms. Simpson holds memberships in the North Caorlina Tax collectors' Association, the North carolina Association of Assessing Officers, The North Carolina Property Mappers' Association, the International Association of Assessing Officers and the Durham Association of Realtors.

 

She has three children, Jessica who is 26 years old and a set of twins, Christoper and Lauren, who are 24 years old.
