Court Security
The Office of the Sheriff through its Civil Division is responsible for maintaining court security for all courtrooms in operation in the Durham County Judicial facility. There are fourteen law enforcement officers who serve as Bailiffs in the courts both on the District and Superior court levels. These officers have total responsibility for opening and closing the courts and custody of defendants in in-custody trials. In addition, the officers have the responsibility of securing and serving warrants or arrest orders on those recognized in court as having outstanding orders

During the past year these officers were responsible for serving over 120,000 persons who went through the court system in Durham County.
