Sheriffs Community Oriented Policing Effort
S.C.O.P.E. (Sheriff?s Community Oriented Policing Effort)

The Sheriff?s Office is dedicated to the community policing effort and has placed seven officers exclusively in a unit designed to identifying and resolving community problems, as well as, enhancing the safety and quality of life for many residents of the community. These officers interact with community residents in helping to problem solve many concerns of the residents.

SCOPE activities this year have included attending community meetings, passing out surveys to citizens asking about their concerns, setting up and fingerprinting and photographing children at Northgate Mall and churches with the KIDCARE ID kits, participated in surveillance operations where citizens had complained of drug activity in their community and in areas where burglaries had been taking place.

This unit was started in May of 1998 with a Community Oriented Policing grant.  Since its inception there has been tremendous response from residents and numerous calls for assistance from community groups and citizens.
