Domestic Violence

| The Domestic Violence Section is responsible for the investigation of criminal offenses involving family relationships, dating relationships, otehr intimate relationships or relationships that hav e a child from that relationship where violence was used against the victim. The Sheriff's Victim's Advocate will assist the victim of Domestic Violence with securing a Domestic Violence Order, support them through the court process, refer them to agencies that might assist them in getting safe housing and/or a job as well as someone to look after the children while the victim works.
The Durham County Office of the Sheriff is fully committed to the efforts of the Criminal Justice system to curtail domestic violence. Every person should feel safe in their own home. Every home should be free of violence. To that end we submit this Domestic Violence Personalized Safety Plan to every citizen in Durham County. The steps given are provided to increase your awareness of the strategies needed should you ever become the victim of domestic violence.
