Most citizens think the Office of the Sheriff serves only those residents who live outside the city limits of Durham.  The fact is that over 80% of the work done by this Office can be attributed to the residents of the City of Durham.  In carrying out mandated functions under state law which include operation of the Detention Center, service of civil process and providing court security, the majority of citizens who use these services are city residents as opposed to county residents.

The Sheriff's Office not only provides standard law enforcement services but also has implemented several new programs which have proven to be of great interest to the community.  It is with great pride that I and my staff serve the citizens of Durham County.
