CALL-FOR-SERVICE FIELD DESCRIPTIONS
Complaint Type:
A "Complaint" (Call for Service) Type may be an actual complaint or emergency call received from a citizen, such as "Disturbance" or "Assault". A Complaint may also be generated internally as a report of activity, such as "Transport of Inmates" or "Assist Fire Dept".
Call Number:
The Durham County Sheriff's Office uses Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software to enter and track Calls for Service. Each Call for Service entered into the computer is automatically assigned a unique number, known as the Call Number (or CAD Call Number).

Format: The first four digits of the Call Number are the year the call was taken. The digits after the dash represent the sequential number of the call.

Example: CAD Call Number 2002-005967 is call number 5,967 received in the year 2002. The Call Number "counter" is automatically reset to the new year every January 1st at 00:01, local time.
OCA Number:
The Durham County Sheriff's Office uses computerized Records Management System (RMS) software to record and track Incident Reports submitted by Deputies. OCA stands for Originating Case Agency.

If a CAD Call for Service is assigned as a case, the CAD Call will have an OCA Number assigned to it. The presence of an OCA Number indicates that a corresponding Incident or Accident Report has been initiated and entered into the Records Management System.

Format: The first two digits of the OCA Number are the year in which the call was taken. The second two digits are the month in which the Call was taken. The last four digits represent the sequential case number for that Month and Year.

Example: OCA number 02030050 would be the year 2002, the third month, and the 50th case of the third month. The RMS case number "counter" is automatically reset on the first day of every month at 00:01, local time.
Incident Location:
An incident location with two forward slashes "//" indicates an intersection or a starting and ending point, depending or the type of Call.

Example 1: For an entry such as "E Main St//Roxboro St", the Call location was at the intersection of East Main and Roxboro Streets.

Or

Example 2: A location such as "Duke//Juh" indicates that a Complaint type (Transport, for example) started at Duke Hospital and the individual was transported to JUH hospital.
