Durham,
N.C. – The Durham County Health Department began offering seasonal
influenza vaccinations to both adults and children on September, 28, 2009, and
has already depleted the first shipment of inactivated seasonal influenza
vaccine for adults and children ages three years of age through 18 years of age.
Production delays have been caused by manufacturers producing H1N1 vaccine
simultaneously with seasonal influenza vaccine.
A second
shipment of inactivated seasonal influenza vaccinations is due to arrive between
now and November 6. The intranasal influenza vaccines for healthy, non-pregnant
individuals ages two years of age through 49 years of age, and injectable
influenza vaccines for children under age three years of age are still
available. The Durham County Health Department will continue to offer the
seasonal influenza vaccine that is in stock on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
from 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. The Durham County Health Department is
closed the first Wednesday afternoon of every month. Influenza vaccine is free
to recipients of Medicare Part B;
otherwise the fee is $25 for adults.
State-supplied
seasonal influenza vaccines are free for all children six months of age through
18 years of age regardless of insurance status. State-supplied seasonal influenza
vaccines are also free for any uninsured and non-Medicaid patient, regardless of
age who will be pregnant during the influenza season, and who is being served by
Durham County Health Department in any capacity.
