Child Care Nutrition Consultation  |

Description: |
A registered dietitian/licensed nutritionist provides nutrition consultation services to participating licensed child care centers and homes. Services include consultation relating to child care food and nutrition requirements, childhood obesity prevention activities, staff training, and parent workshops.
The NAP-SACC (Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment for Child Care) tool kit is used as the framework to guide activities in the centers and homes. |

DINE for LIFE in the Classroom |

Description: |
Registered/Licensed Dietitians/Nutritionists in targeted schools conduct classroom nutrition and fitness lessons (MyPyramid, food safety, hand washing, physical activity, etc.) and healthy foods taste-testing. This program also includes school-wide campaigns and promotions, including environmental cues, participation in health fairs, displays/bulletin boards; informational fact sheets, walking trails, recipes, and parent newsletters. |

Children in the Durham County Public School System where greater than 50% of the student population is eligible for free or reduced priced meals. |

Family Fun with Food |

Description: |
Registered/Licensed Dietitians/Nutritionists in targeted schools conduct evening cooking and nutrition workshops for students and their parents. The two hour workshops run once a week for four weeks. Lessons include cooking on a budget, meal planning, and family meals. Each week the parents and their children work together to cook healthy, tasty and inexpensive dinner and then sit down and eat together at the table. |

Third through fifth grade students and their parents in the Durham County Public School System where greater than 50% of the student population is eligible for free or reduced priced meals. |
