Student Opportunities

The Durham County Health Department is a training site for students from many area universities and technical colleges. Staff members are committed to providing a rich learning opportunity to each student that will enhance their skill sets, increase their awareness of Public Health and expand their scope of career options. Students from health-related programs at Duke University, North Carolina Central University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, East Carolina University, Meredith College, Durham Technical Community College and Watts School of Nursing have received training with the Department. Occasionally, the Department provides training for students in programs that are outside of North Carolina. Students preparing for careers as dentists, health educators, medical technicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, nutritionists, phlebotomists, physicians and physician assistants are typically assigned to program areas within the Department. Student experiences range from a day of observation to a two semester assignment that integrates the student into the operations, administrative and/or direct service delivery, of the Department.

For more information about training opportunities contact The Public Health Department.
