The General Health Division is comprised of public health nurses, medical doctors, physician assistants, pharmacists, laboratory technicians and technologists, Spanish interpreters, and processing assistants.  Hours of operation and requirement of appointments vary with each clinic.  These staff members contribute to the mission and goals of the Durham County Health Department by providing services in seven major clinics.  For more information, contact the General Health Division.

  • STD Clinic provides evaluation, treatment, education and case tracking of sexually transmitted diseases
  • Early Intervention Clinic provides medical treatment and social work services to people with HIV/AIDS in any stage of the disease.
  • Immunization Clinic  provides immunizations to children less than 18 years old at no charge, and Hepatitis B, Pre-exposure rabies, Flu, Pneumovax and Tetanus to adults for a small fee.
  • HIV Testing and Counseling provides confidential  counseling and testing for anyone who has been sexually active or has questions regarding HIV and/or AIDS.
  • TB (Tuberculosis) Control Program provides case management to all active cases of TB, all persons suspected of having TB and all contacts of active and suspect cases within the county. TB screening is provided to predetermined high-risk individuals.
  • Adult Health / BCCP (Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program) provides screening of adults for cancer and cardiovascular disease.  Provides breast and cervical cancer screening, including mammograms (if indicated); physical assessment for uninsured women not of childbearing capacity, and uninsured men without a health care provider.
  • Refugee Health Assessment provides a complete physical exam, immunizations, and specific laboratory tests to newly arrived refugees.
  • Laboratory is an intricate part of most of the clinic services.  The lab provides analysis of blood and other body fluids to assist clinicians in treating and or managing STD's and other communicable diseases.
  • Pharmacy fills prescriptions for all of the clinics requiring prescriptions.  NO OUTSIDE PRESCRIPTIONS are accepted.  Consultation and counseling about prescriptions are provided.  Drug interactions are screened, and condoms are provided to the public.
