The Dental Division provides community outreach services to increase knowledge regarding good oral health and stimulate an interest in attaining excellence in oral hygiene. These services include:
- Oral health presentations.
- Annual dental screenings for children in all K & 5th grade classes and those in Headstart.
- Private schools screened on an "on call" basis.
- Participates in health fairs, and conducts Oral Health presentations as time permits.

Nutrition Education |
| Description: |
|
Registered/Licensed Dietitians/Nutritionists provide services in the Durham Community to promote health and wellness. Nutritionists coordinate community-wide health and nutrition initiatives, create and provide innovative classes and programs, assist in the development of work-site wellness programs, and provide nutrition displays for health fairs and related events. The DINE for LIFE program targets limited-resource audiences in various community sites (senior centers, churches, housing developments, homeless shelters, etc.) A nutrition newsletter is sent to all food stamp households in Durham County on a quarterly basis, and key health messages are posted on local buses. Community Nutritionists partner with local community agencies and the local media (newspapers, radio, television) to enhance services offered. |

Neighborhood Nursing Program |

|
Promotes health services and educational programs of interest for residents of Few Gardens and Fayetteville Street Housing Developments. Assist residents with making appointments, transportation arrangements, referrals to community resources, newborn/postpartum home visits. |

Resident of Few Gardens or Fayetteville Street Housing Developments. Focus is on Maternal Health and Child Health however needs of other residents are addressed as they become known to the nurses. |

Through the Winner's Circle Healthy Dining Program the Health Promotion Nutritionist works with restaurants and foodservice operations in Durham to identify and promote nutritious options for consumers when dining away from home. Consumers can identify participating locations by the Winner's Circle "Purple Star and Fork" logo. |
