Durham County Health Department
Community Health Division

The Community Health Division is comprised of public health nurses, social workers, processing assistants, physician extenders, physical therapists, community health assistants, outreach workers, and Spanish interpreters.  Additional specialty services are provided by contract staff, which include physicians, therapist (physical, occupational, and speech), and a dentist.  These staff members contribute to the mission and goals of the Durham County Health Department by providing services in six major programs.  For more information, contact the Community Health Division.
 
  • Child Health Program promotes good health in infants and young children and prevents and/or reduces developmental delay by providing case management (Child Service Coordination, HealthCheck), Lead Screening, and formal review of infant and child deaths to attempt to prevent similar occurrences.

  • Family Planning Clinic provides methods to allow women to plan pregnancies. Pregnancy testing, counseling on birth control methods and infertility counseling are provided.

  • Home Health brings health care providers into the homes for the medically homebound through its agency, Visiting Nurse Service of Durham.
