Roadside Trash Collection
Durham County Government does not provide roadside trash collection service. In addition to disposing of trash at one of four solid waste and recycling convenience sites, County residents located within the unincorporated portions of the County may set up roadside trash collection with a solid waste hauler. Durham County Government does not endorse one solid waste hauler over another but does provide a list of solid waste haulers to contact about roadside trash collection. Contact the haulers listed below for service rates. If you would like your company's information added below, please send a request to bhaynesworth@co.durham.nc.us. Solid Waste Permit Decals
Access to the sites is available to residents displaying their Durham County Solid Waste Permit Decal. Per Chapter 20 of the Durham County Ordinances, Section 20-8 (a) "the board of county commissioners may impose an annual solid waste fee to be used for the availability of solid waste disposal facilities and services provided by the county." Payment of these fees generates revenues to offset the operating costs associated with the operation of the four convenience sites available throughout the County, the costs of litter control and roadside recycling services. Residents may receive a fee waiver if they are able to demonstrate that a residence is not being maintained on the subject property. Call the General Services Department at 919-560-0430 for further information.
Each December, new solid waste permit decals are mailed to Durham County property owners of record. Renters should request their solid waste permit decals from their landlords. Decals will not be mailed to rental property addresses. Although city residents may use the county sites for the disposal of recyclable materials, a current solid waste permit decal is required for disposing of residential trash, white goods and yard waste. Solid waste permit decals may be purchased at:
