Durham County operates four Convenience Centers for the use of Durham County residents. This service is made available to Durham County residents. This service is made available to Durham County resident through county tax dollars. Hours of operation at all sites are 7:00am to 7:00pm, Monday through Saturday. The purpose of the sites are to give county residents a place to dispose of residential trash, recyclable material, white goods and yard waste. The centers are not available for commercial use of any kind. Access to the sites is available to residents displaying the Durham County Waste Stickers. Each December, new stickers are mailed to the property owners of record. Renters should request the stickers from their landlords. Stickers will not be mailed to rental property addresses. Although city residents can use the county sites, a sticker will still be required for dumping purposes.

Durham County has its own Litter Investigator on staff. The job of the litter investigator is to identify the litter generator who litters highways, vacant lots, dead end street and anywhere people illegally dump. Those persons found dumping litter will be prosecuted by the Durham County legal system. The purpose is to keep Durham clean and beautiful. Residents observing illegal dumping are urged to contact the General Services Litter Investigator at (919) 560-0437.
