WORK FIRST FAMILY ASSISTANCE
Eligibility To apply for Work First Family Assistance you must have a child under 18 years of age living in your home.
Application Applications are taken in group sessions at 300 N. Duke Street. Session times are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 9:30 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 3:30 pm. On Wednesdays, applications are taken at 9:30 am and 11:00 am only. You need to arrive at least 30 minutes before the starting time. You do not need to bring anything with you on the day you apply. Your worker will tell you what you need during the interview process.
Once you have applied for benefits, please allow approximately 45 days for processing. Upon completion you will be notified in writing on the outcome of your application.
Check Receipt Please allow approximately 10 days for receipt of your Work First Check. If after the 10th of the month you have still not received your check, please contact your cash assistance worker. Please note that your check could be delayed if you have recently moved or your case has been terminated.
Case Termination If your case has been terminated you may be eligible for continued Food Stamp and Medicaid benefits. If you are eligible you will receive a written notice with a scheduled appointment to discuss the continued benefits.
WORK FIRST EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
Eligibility If you are interested in participating in the Work First Employment Services Program, you must be a current or former cash assistance recipient. If you are under the age of 18 you must be receiving a check in your name.
Job Opportunities You may receive information on job opportunities by visiting the Resource Room located on the 2nd floor of the Duke Street Building during regular business hours.
Time Cards If you need to request a time card you must stop by the Employment Services office Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 5:15 pm. You must turn in your completed time card by your deadline date to receive payment.
Transportation and Auto Repairs Transportation is available if you are a current or former Work First Cash Assistance recipient. Please contact your Work First Employment worker.
Case Termination If your Work First Family Assistance case has terminated you are still responsible for turning in your time card by the deadline date.
WELFARE TO WORK
Mission Welfare to Work provides services complementing the Work First Program designed to help you get a job, advance to a better job and eventually secure a career. The main goal is to serve all areas involving employment and circumstances that might prevent you form becoming employed or maintaining employment. Such services might include job placement and coaching, day care assistance, transportation and counseling.
Eligibility You are eligible for Welfare to Work if you meet two of the following requirements:
- Lack a high school diploma
- Unemployed or not working for the last 3 months
- Past or present substance abuse history
- Currently receive or have received Work First Family Assistance and/or Aid to Families with Dependent Children
- Non-custodial parent paying child support
Fatherhood Initiatives Program The Fatherhood Initiative Program is designed to provide employment related services to non-custodial fathers. Fathers may be eligible for Fatherhood Inititative benefits if you can answer Yes to these questions.

1. Are you the father of a child who has been receiving Work First Cash Assistance from the Department of Social Services, 2. Have not worked full-time (30 hours per week) in the last six months? AND 3. Lack a high school diploma or GED. |

Employers If you are an employer looking for potential employees, we provide pre and post employment training and supportive services for customers, and individual vocational training. Employers may also become eligible for Tax Credits through the Welfare to Work program.
