Housing

Results Based Accountability

Imagine a Durham where everyone has access to adequate, safe, and affordable housing:

Housing represents the single largest expenditure for most families and is the largest source of wealth for most howeowners. Decent housing is one of the building blocks of healthy neighborhoods, and thus shapes the quality of community life. Through efforts of the City and County, the Housing Authority, non-profit organizations and private lenders and builders, we want to ensure that all Durham residents have access to adequate, safe and affordable housing, whether they are home owners or renters.

Did You Know?

In a one-day point-in-time survey, the number of homeless people in Durham slightly increased in 2007.

Overall, the trend shows the number of homeless people to be on the decline.

We Are Also Tracking

• Foreclosures

• Number of people living in substandard housing

Imagine Durham is our Results Based Accountability (RBA) initiative; a community-wide effort to improve the quality of life in the city and county of Durham. Citizens develop and implement strategies that allow us to measure our progress in the nine outcome areas listed on our home page. Any citizen wishing to become involved in this continuing process can contact Bill Stout, coordinator for the Results Based Accountability Initiative, at wstout@durhamcountync.gov or 919-560-0032.
