Durham County Government has revised its Nonprofit Agency Funding Program and application process. Nonprofit agencies now must complete a Prequalification Form in order to apply for funding. This form was due February 9, 2009. Agencies meeting minimum qualifications will be trained to complete funding requests through an online system. For qualified nonprofits, the online application period will be February 18, 2009 through March 18, 2009. All applications must be complete and submitted online by March 18, 2009 at 5:00pm. No exceptions will be granted.

Durham County NPAF Grant Application Overview
Durham County Government accepts applications for funding of local nonprofit organizations as a part of its annual budget process. The Durham County Board of Commissioners invites all interested nonprofit organizations to submit an annual application for funding.
The application and evaluation process for funding is driven by the applicant organization's mission as it corresponds to Durham County's mission:
The mission of Durham County Government is to enhance the quality of life for its citizens, by providing education, safety and security, health and human services, economic development, cultural and recreational resources.

Eligibility
All nonprofits shall verify their nonprofit status and submit detailed financial documents for review by County personnel. All applicants must:
- Have been in operation for the two years prior to December 31st, 2008
- Submit their most recent solicitation license (if exempt, submit exemption letter)
- Submit their IRS tax-exempt letter confirming 501(c)(3) non-profit status
- Complete all requested information and documents
Grant Cycle
- The grant period for nonprofits approved for funding for Fiscal Year 2010 will be from July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010. Applications will be available in January 2009. Final funding decisions are made by the Board of County Commissioners in June of each year.
Application Process
- Organizations must submit the Pre-Qualification form and requested documents by 5 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009.

Qualified nonprofits will be notified by February 12, 2009. At that time qualified nonprofits will receive information regarding training sessions for the nonprofit online application. The online nonprofit application system will be open from February 18, 2009 through 5pm March 18, 2009.
Consideration
- Actual grant funding is based upon funds appropriated by the County Commissioners in the annual budget.
- Previous years' allocations are not a consideration for funding. Each application is approved based on its own merits.
- Submission of a complete application will not guarantee funding to the applicant.
- Applications not received by the deadline will not be accepted.
Grant Recipient Requirements
Organizations that receive grant funding are required to:
- Submit a revised scope of work if not funded at level requested
- Enter into contract with Durham County for the delivery of services
- Obtain appropriate level of insurance as determined by Durham County
- Submit quarterly reports detailing program performance and financial information
