Durham County NPAF Grant Application Overview
Durham County Government accepts applications for funding of local nonprofit organizations as a part of its annual budget process. The Durham County Board of Commissioners invites all interested nonprofit organizations to submit an annual application for funding. It is the policy of the Board not to consider funding requests made by non-profit organizations outside of this application process.
The application and evaluation process for funding is driven by the applicant organization's mission as it corresponds to Durham County's mission:

Eligibility
All nonprofits shall verify their nonprofit status and submit detailed financial documents for review by County auditors and/or finance personnel. All applicants shall provide copies of:
- Most recent IRS Form 990
- Most recent solicitation license (if exempt, submit exemption letter)
- IRS tax-exempt letter confirming 501(c)(3) Non-profit status
- Certificate of liability insurance
- List of board members that includes name, position held, address, and professional affiliation
- All applications must be complete and contain all requested information and documents in order to be considered for funding
Please note that for new nonprofit agencies (less than two years old), a site visit by the County's Finance Department will also be required to confirm that administrative and programmatic systems are in place to effectively operate the proposed programmatic activities.
Grant Cycle
- The grant period for nonprofits approved for funding for Fiscal Year 2009 will be from July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009.
Application Process
- All applications are due no later than Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 by 5:00pm. All materials must be received by this time.
- Complete the FY 2009 Durham County Non-profit Agency Funding Application and submit 12 copies, double-sided, three-hole punched, collated and fastened with paperclips or binder clips (NO STAPLES). Do not submit a cover letter, and do not place in a packet or folder. One of the twelve copies must be an original including original signatures and suitable for making additional copies.

- All applications will be initially screened to ensure that all required information and documentation has been submitted. Complete applications will be forwarded to respective County Departments for review by staff. Incomplete applications will not be forwarded for County staff review and will be ineligible for funding. Therefore, applicants are encouraged to submit applications early to ensure that all documentation is complete.
- Upon the County Commissioners' approval of the FY 2008-2009 annual budget, grant notification letters will be sent to agencies.
Consideration
- Actual grant funding is based upon funds appropriated by the County Commissioners in the annual budget.
- It is the policy of Durham County Government to fund new nonprofit organizations (i.e., less than two years old) at no more than $5,000.
- Previous years' allocations are not a consideration for funding. Each application is approved based on its own merits.
- Submission of a complete application will not guarantee funding to the applicant.
